Hello! My name is Akif Ashraf Khan, and I came from Pakistan. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and, shortly after graduation, joined MOL Pakistan, a multinational oil and gas company. I spent nearly two years there, gaining valuable experience in the engineering field.
From a young age, I dreamt of exploring the fascinating world of aircraft and aerospace engineering. However, due to limited resources and knowledge from those around me, I initially embarked on my journey through mechanical engineering. Over time, I came to appreciate that mechanical engineering serves as the foundation for all engineering disciplines.
After completing my degree, I was determined to pursue further education in aerospace and related fields. I applied for Master’s programs in Aircraft and Aerospace Engineering, as well as Noise and Vibration, Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Energy Engineering, and Green energy production Engineering across several countries, including Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Scotland, Romania, and Russia. To my delight, I received admission offers from all these institutions but ultimately I chose to study in Russia.
My decision was influenced by several factors: the affordability of education, the warmth of the people, the beautiful environment, and the state-of-the-art educational facilities. Specifically, I selected Samara due to its rich history in aerospace engineering and the renowned NK engines developed by Russian engineers and scientists.
Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Aircraft Engines on an Open Door scholarship from the prestigious Samara National Research University, which also provides me with a monthly stipend of 4500 rubles. Alongside my studies, I am engaged in research focused on wire rope dampers in turbofan aircraft engines to reduce hydraulic losses without compromising engine integrity. The professors at my university have been incredibly supportive, guiding me as I work towards publishing a research paper dedicated to both Samara National Research University and my home country, Pakistan.
One of the highlights of my experience here has been visiting the university’s museum, which showcases Soviet-era aircraft and technologies. Witnessing these remarkable inventions has truly motivated me and deepened my appreciation for aerospace engineering.
Samara boasts beautiful weather; the winter snow awakens my spirit and connects me with nature's beauty. Overall, I find that living in Samara offers a high standard of life. I wholeheartedly encourage students seeking higher education to consider Russia for its excellent academic opportunities and quality of life.
Thank you for allowing me to share my journey!
I would like to dedicate tow quotes to all teaching staff, and students who are studying or want to study in Samara National Research University.
“Dreams without goals are just dreams, and ultimately they fuel disappointment. On the road to achieving your dreams, you must apply discipline - but more importantly, consistency, because without commitment you never start but without consistency you never finish”
“Ever tried, ever failed, no matter, try again, fail again, and fail better. The world is yours. Treat everyone kindly and light up the night.”
