Aleksander Lazutkin answered the questions of schoolchildren and students

Today, the All-Russian Youth Scientific Conference with International Participation “XVII Korolev Readings” will come to its end at the University. The guest of the Conference was a good friend of Samara University, a cosmonaut, Hero of Russia Aleksander Lazutkin. During his official visit, the cosmonaut talked to schoolchildren and undergraduates of the University on the topic “The Start of Space History.”

In course of the communication, students of Samara International Lyceum of Aerospace Engineering, Samara Medical and Technical Lyceum, Aviation Lyceum No. 135, D.I. Kozlov School No. 26, Lyceum No. 1 “Sputnik” and students were able to learn more about rocket science, the history and development of cosmonautics, many children were inspired by the idea of space exploration. And, of course, they took advantage of the unique opportunity to ask the cosmonaut questions directly.

For example, students were interested in the call sign of Aleksander Lazutkin in orbit, it turned out to be “Sirius-2.” As for his favorite works of fiction, the cosmonaut replied that he grew up reading science fiction. He loves books by the Strugatskys, Efremov, and especially singled out the fantastic detective novel “The Investigation is Underway at the Institute of Time” by Ariadna Gromova and Raphael Nudelman, which fascinated him in his youth.

One of the issues that worried young people was the topic of vocation and career building. In response, Aleksander Lazutkin told about his experience: “Since my childhood, I was going to be a cosmonaut, and, after graduating from school, entered a technical university — the Moscow Aviation Institute. Then I worked at the “Energia” Design Bureau, where I was offered to fill out a questionnaire for those who wanted to become a cosmonaut. And from that moment, my path to orbit began — for 7 years I passed medical commissions, doctors said that I was not fit to fly for health reasons. But I didn’t give up, I trained more and tried again and again. And finally, in 1992, I was enrolled in the cosmonaut squadron, where for 5 years I was preparing for the flight: I studied and trained. In 1997, I went to the cosmodrome and a few days later I saw our planet with my own eyes from the window of the spaceship. I realized then that the whole journey was not done in vain, I implemented my dream. I advise everyone: make your dreams come true!”
