Let us recall that in the Samara Region, in framework of the National Project “Science and Universities,” the project on creating the international interuniversity campus is being implemented. The Architectural Agency “Studio 44” from St. Petersburg is engaged in designing the large-scale complex.
Addressing the session participants, Vladimir Bogatyrev, Rector of Samara University, which is the key beneficiary of the project, stressed that scientists, teachers and students are participants in several stages of the project implementation. So, in August, during the strategic session “Samara: Designing the campus of the future together,” the model of the campus management, profile and its specialization areas were determined. “Now we have come to the stage of designing the facility, discussing its visual appearance and semantic content,” noted the rector. “Having analyzed colleagues’ experience, at this stage we understand that the design looks of ITMO Highpark in St. Petersburg and the Moscow School of Management “Skolkovo” are closer to us than others.”
Elena Golikova, the session moderator, representative of the VEB of Russia, tried to encourage the participants to co-creation, and asked them to formulate features of the large-scale interuniversity campus space, which could inspire and be designed not for 3–5 years, but for several generations.
Evgeny Bobrov, Vice-Rector of Innopolis University, shared with the session participants the experience of designing and operating their campus near Kazan. Now 8 thousand people live in Innopolis, which is essentially a city within the city: they are students, scientists, entrepreneurs, residents of the special economic zone. The average age of the Innopolis residents is 31 years old. Residential areas, scientific laboratories, hostels, cafes, shops, co-working spaces have been built for them. Innopolis hosts annually over 200 exhibitions and concerts. “Work, self-development, family and recreation — these are the 4 “pillars” to support life in Innopolis: we have done a lot to make people who once come to our “city” want to return here,” told us the vice-rector.
Ekaterina Simakova, Head of the architectural department of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, and Andrey Zakharov, Head of the laboratory of the Skoltech campus, told, in turn, that the Skolkovo team had completed the full track of creating the campus. This resulted in creating near the center of Moscow modern transformer classrooms for students, scientists, and industrial partners, and each research laboratory has its own office space.
Viktor Golubev, an analyst at Molten Consulting, gave the session participants a tour of the world’s best university campuses, introducing them to the experience of the most efficient projects in Switzerland, France, the UK, the USA, Germany, Portugal and Sweden.
Anton Yar-Skryabin, a partner of the Architectural Agency “Studio 44,” which is to create the campus project in the Samara Region, presented projects of university campuses to have been implemented by the Agency and ones to be just under construction in St. Petersburg (ITMO and ST. Petersburg State University), Nizhny Novgorod and Sochi (“Sirius”). He also made the presentation of two design solutions of the international interuniversity campus in Samara. Both projects are distinguished by technology, comfortable urban environment, landscaping, and a lot of green spaces. As for scientific and educational infrastructure, Studio 44 suggests creating the most open, cozy and friendly spaces near the stadium for communication and knowledge exchange between students, scientists and entrepreneurs. Spaces that will stimulate all participants in the process to interact, and will become real points of attraction not only for residents of the region, but also for other regions and foreign countries.
