According to Tony Maalouf, chairman of the Lebanese Association of Alumni of Russian and Soviet Universities, science and education are a traditional area of partnership with the Russian Federation.
The exhibition-presentation “Education in Russia” which opened on Monday in the Russian House on Verdun Street, was very popular among the Lebanese. This was reported to TASS by the acting head of Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Lebanon Alexander Sorokin.
According to him, representatives of 14 universities of the Russian Federation participate in this large-scale event. “The exhibition is held not only in Beirut, but also in major cities such as Baalbek, Tripoli, and Tyre,” he said. “Future undergraduate and graduate students have shown a lot of interest in it.”
The North-Caucasus Federal University in Stavropol, where 700 students from 16 countries study, is a constant participant of exhibitions and presentations in Beirut. “Lebanese and people from other Arab countries are traditionally attracted to majors in the oil and gas, electricity, and information security,” said Stanislav Sidorenko, Head of the International Student Recruitment Department. “Recently, interest in clinical biochemistry has also been growing.”
Young visitors at the exhibition were attracted by the stand of Samara National Research University, where more than a thousand foreign students study. Its representative Evgeny Chursin said that “in recent years there has been a steady flow of young people from Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates, who enter the faculties of aerospace engineering and rocket and space technology.”
“First of all, we educate mechanical engineers and designers who will create aircraft,” he stressed. “The education is in Russian, which is due to the specifics of our university.” According to Chursin, “the language of space is Russian, the vast majority of technology that enables safe living in orbit was invented in Russia.”
As noted by Tony Maalouf, chairman of the Lebanese Association of Alumni of Russian and Soviet Universities, science and education are a traditional area of partnership with the Russian Federation. “We expect that this exhibition will help increase the number of Lebanese students studying in Russia, given the growing rating of Russian universities,” he said.
