The RAEX ranking showed that influential universities are unevenly distributed in Russia, the authors of the research note. The final list includes universities from only 20 regions, which is less than 25% of the number of subjects of the Russian Federation. At the same time, almost two thirds of universities ranked in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. There are 34 most influential universities in Moscow and 13 universities - in St. Petersburg.
Among other cities, a high concentration of influential universities is observed in Kazan and Yekaterinburg - 3 universities of each cites included in the ranking. Then follow 2 best universities of Tomsk, Samara, Tyumen, Perm, Ufa and Irkutsk. There are 10 Russian regions in the ranking by one university.
