The number of foreign scientists coming to work in Russia grows year on year. This process is facilitated not only by mega-grant projects suggesting international cooperation between higher academic institutions, scientific organizations and world level scientists, and by improvement in work environment. In scope of Project "Science", comprehensive conditions for comfortable work are being created in Russia for native and foreign scholars, internal research project budgets are increased, research and development are being conducted in priority science and technology areas. Instrumentation fleet is being updated in scope of federal project "Establishment of advanced infrastructure for research and development in the Russian Federation".

"I obtained an opportunity to join S.P. Korolev Samara University in November 2016. My scientific interests lie in the area of nanomaterials synthesis for design of optical, heat and gas-sensing sensors. Before my arrival to Russia I perused a lot of literature in international research journals on its cutting-edge technologies in the field of aerospace industry. I came to Samara to put to use my knowledge on new materials and sensors in aerospace applications.I first learned about Samara University research and development from a presentation by Professor Vladimir Pavelyev during a science conference in India. I also learned that Samara University Department of Nanoengineering had the most state-of-the-art facilities for research and development of materials.

The main purpose of my research is to develop cost-effective technology for synthesis of nanomaterials for optoelectronic applications. I have developed new methods for synthesis of carbon nanotubes (single- and multi-wall), as well as carbon nanobelts using plant-based catalyst. As a catalyst, I used materials from regular plants readily available in nature. Besides, I have been working on synthesis of nanomaterials for electronics and optoelectronics, such as graphene and graphene oxide, as well as formation of quantum dots on the basis of sulfides and disulfides of various metals, using state-of-the art research equipment available in Samara University. The nanomaterials I have created have become the basis for research and development of gas sensors and a wide-band light detector. In collaboration with Dr. Prabhash Mishra from JMI University, I synthesized a new material on the basis of titanium trisulfide (TiS3). Presently I am working on modification of 2D material properties in order to make them more handy in sensor applications. The results of my work can be used by the industry for synthesis of nanomaterials for aerospace applications, as well as for home appliances. Currently I am looking into managing the properties of the aforementioned materials to adapt them to sensor applications. I am also developing materials for water purification by photocatalysis.

In Russia I found the best environment for research and freedom for creation. I am enjoying my work in one of the best places for research ever. People in Samara University are honest, friendly and committed. Apart from my research activities, I am immersed into one of the most fascinating cultures of the globe. I feel comfortable in Russia. I want to be a part of Samara University to become a premier researcher in functional materials science"
