On Thursday, February 20, Noritsugu Uemura, head of the Department of Foreign and Government Relations of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation delivered an open lecture at the Samara University. He visited the university at the personal invitation of the Samara region head. Rector of the University Vladimir Bogatyrev expressed gratitude to Governor Dmitry Azarov for the opportunity to conduct such a lecture for of Samara University students.
The topic of communication with students was the Japanese strategy for building a super-intellectual society — "Society 5.0". In his welcoming address, the Deputy Chairman of Samara Region Government Alexander Fetisov emphasized that this topic is important for young professionals who have to develop and implement the latest technologies and developments. "In Samara region, on the initiative of the region head, a scientific and educational center was created and called the "Engineering of the Future." Its goal is the cooperation of science, education and business to create worldwide demanded commercial projects. The creation of such scientific and educational centers is supported by the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin. One of the key functions of the "Engineering of the Future" is the training of personnel for solving large tasks on the scientific and technological development priorities of our country. And for these purposes we consider it important to attract representatives of both the scientific community and the world’s largest corporations, such as our guests today," he explained.
Noritsugu Uemura, in the framework of the lecture "Society 5.0: Japanese Technologies for the Digital Transformation of the Russian Economy," told our future specialists how the technologies developed by the company are used for digital transformation in Japan and how this experience can be shared with other states.
Mr. Uemura emphasized that the concept of "Society 5.0″ is not a software product, although it is a matter of how to digitize the processes taking place in any society. This concept is applicable in any country and is based on the integration of physical and digital space, on the interaction of technologies: the Internet of things, artificial intelligence, Big Data, and "cloud" solutions. As a result of such interaction, innovative technological solutions are formed and implemented and, as a result, make human life more comfortable and full. Among the new directions that he cited as an example are intelligent transport systems based on autonomous driving, "digital" production, "smart" agriculture, construction, and "smart cities".
Alexander Ageev, General Director of the Institute of Economic Strategies and the International Research Institute of Management Problems, in his speech invited students to think of how society’s values change due to the large-scale introduction of new technologies, as the concept of "Society 5.0″ refers not only to technologies, but also new values and changes in public consciousness.
At the end of the event, students and lecturers asked the speakers a lot of questions.
