Samara National Research University entered the number of the best universities in the world according to the authoritative British magazine Times Higher Education (THE).
In the ranking of "THE World University Rankings 2020", annually compiled by the publication, the university entered 1001+ group of universities.
According to the experts of the ranking agency Samara University has been able to improve its performance indicators in international cooperation, in particular. The active attraction of foreign students (over 5 years their number has more than doubled and exceeded 1000 people), the invitation of authoritative scientists, the development of joint research and scientific publications, the increase of research income and profit from orders of industrial partners – here the university has shown the growth.
At the same time, within this year the number of universities that meet the requirements of one of the leading global rankings increased from 1258 to 1396. Despite the large representation of Russia – from 35 to 39 universities, the increased global competition affected the performance indicators of many Russian universities.
Commenting on the results of the "THE World University Rankings 2020" ranking to the TASS news agency, its editor-in-chief Phil Baty noted the success of Russian higher education institutions in difficult conditions of growing global competition. At the same time he drew attention to the necessity of improving key indicators, which eventually cost them higher positions in world tables. “In recent years, Russia has faced very fierce competition in the field of higher education, therefore, it is encouraging that some of the best universities of the country have been able to improve their position in the ranking during this year, – TASS quotes Phil Baty. – But, as before, universities in Russia are not effective enough on key indicators in comparison with international competitors, first of all, this refers to the citation of scientific works. Unfortunately, it makes the positive achievements, that many of them achieved in other performance indicating areas, less remarkable. Universities in Russia need not only to make great efforts to improve international relations and partnerships, but also to ensure the preservation of the most capable people and a significant improvement in the research quality".
