Samara National Research University has improved its position in the QS World University Rankings. This year it is included in the number of the world’s top universities occupying positions from 651 to 700.
In 2017 Samara University for the first time was included into the World University Rankings published by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and joined the group of universities sharing positions from 800 to 1000. In 2018 Samara University moved to a group of universities occupying positions from 701 to 750. During the year, it continued the onward movement and in 2019 is among the world’s top universities in the range of 651-700.
International experts explain this dynamic, above all, by the growing number of foreign students who chose Samara University. There are more than 900 foreign students from 65 countries of the near and far abroad: Germany, France, Colombia, Argentina, Ecuador, China, Brazil, India, Belarus, Kazakhstan and others. English-language educational programmes are introduced especially for foreigners – the most popular areas are taught in English. And this year they will be supplemented by new English-language bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes, reflecting the sectoral specifics of the region. The intake of foreign students will be carried out on the following programmes: " Designing of Powerplants and Energy Systems of Aircrafts", "Optical Microsystems and Nanotechnologies", "Advanced Space Technologies and Experiments in Space" and others.
"Historically, Samara University was formed to be associated with strategic sectors of the economy. Many years of experience gained by Samara University scientists in developing and building of advanced aviation and space technology, conducting basic research in the field of Physics, Chemistry and Computer Science are fully embodied in relevant educational programmes, – said Acting Rector of Samara University Vladimir Bogatyrev. – The interest not only in these areas, but also in social and humanitarian ones is natural for foreign applicants. Over the last 4 years the number of foreign students has doubled. And according to the national project "Education" their number should double again by 2024. Obtaining education in Samara is more profitable than in metropolitan regions. And the quality of the knowledge gained, as it is evidenced by extensive practice, allows our graduates to build their personal career paths anywhere in the world. The knowledge and skills transferred within the framework of traditional scientific schools are complemented by modern competencies. The dynamics shown in this ranking is the result of the cohesive work of the entire team of university staff and the result of the university's development strategy formation by the supervisory board chaired by Governor Dmitry Igorevich Azarov".
