The Center for Pre-University Training of the Samara National Research University is pleased to announce that it is now accepting documents and issuing visas to foreign nationals planning to enrol at the Preparatory Department in the fall. Students receive lectures on the Russian language as well as other specialized subjects: physics, mathematics, social studies, history, chemistry and biology.
Students are expected to enrol in September-November 2019 upon arrival in Samara.
The programme ends on June 30, 2020.
700 hours - Russian language at level B1
Classes are formed of 10-12 people.
“Generally, all groups are multinational. Therefore, students need to find a common language for everyday communication which further incentivises them to learn Russian.” says Eugene Stefansky, director of the Center for Pre-University Training.
In one academic year, students have about 700 academic hours of Russian, as well as a specialized subject (Scientific style of speech), the content of which depends on the faculty the foreign student plans to enrol in. For example, future engineers study the terminology of exact sciences, material science and aviation history. Similarly, future students of humanitarian faculties learn social and political terminology, read texts on history, economics and law. Such volume of training hours allows the students to bring their knowledge of the Russian language to the B1 level.
Additional subjects
In addition, starting from the second semester, foreign students of the Preparatory Department study two subjects for which they need to pass exams to enrol at the faculty of their choice; future students of engineering, physics and mathematics faculties are introduced to physics and mathematics, future economists are introduced to mathematics and social studies, and future students of humanities have lectures on history and social studies.
There are those who want to get a medical degree among the students of the Preparatory Department. Since there are no medical programmes at Samara University, the training of such students is conducted in collaboration with the Samara Medical University. Future medical students study Russian at the Samara National Research University, and take courses in biology and chemistry in the departments and laboratories of the Samara Medical University, directly communicating with those who will administer their entrance exams. They then go on to successfully enrol at the Samara Medical University.
Examinations and Certificates
Training at the Preparatory Department ends in June with final exams. These are exams in Russian and the two major subjects studied.
Upon completion of the preparatory programme, students receive a certificate indicating the marks they received in the exams on a 100-point scale.
Students coming through the Ministry of Higher Education and Science are enrolled at the university without entrance exams. Those who sign a contract with the university (self-funded) take an entrance exam in three subjects.
What is the cost of training at the Preparatory Department?
In the 2019 - 2020 academic year, the tuition fee is 131,000 roubles per academic year.
