A two-month internship on the exchange programme of a student of the Institute of Space Rocket Engineering Vladislav Elagin at Freiberg Mining Academy has been completed. Vladislav studied at the Academy as a student of the 5th Faculty – Materials Science and Technology in Materials Science (Werkstoffwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnologie) in the direction of Materials Science (Werkstoffwissenschaft).
In 2016 Samara University and Freiberg Mining Academy (Germany) launched a programme of double degrees in the direction of "Metallurgy". Freiberg Mining Academy is the leading European technical university in the field of metallurgy, mining and materials processing. Almost 300 years ago Mikhail Lomonosov studied here.
The first participants of the double diploma programme were the graduates of the undergraduate programme at Samara University Elmar Galiev and Sergey Vakulenko. They became the first master's degree candidates of Samara University, who defended their thesis abroad. At present this programme is supervised by Ph.D. Evgeny Aryshensky.
As part of the programme, Vladislav Elagin studied a number of technologies at the production and research equipment in the experimental workshops of Freiberg Mining Academy.
Each student of the Academy studies according to an individual plan, which includes several compulsory core subjects, and one more optional subject, which is chosen by the student. So for two months, Vladislav studied numerical methods in molding technology, the basics of plastic molding, a special pressure treatment method - powder metallurgy / plating, the development of flat products, the technology of making long and flat products, sheet molding.
In parallel, he improved the level of knowledge of the German language, which is the language of the training. “I learn the language with the help of online language courses. The goal is to pass the language exam like DSH, – says Vladislav. – I really like "Sprachpartner Programm", where you talk with the curator, who corrects you, if something is not said in a proper way".
From October to December, a Samara student has conducted three laboratory works on the topics “Cold Rolling”, “Hot Rolling” and “Flat and Edge Rolling”. Each was carried out on the corresponding rolling mill.
Thus, for the research concerning the rolling of a thin sheet and a cold strip, as well as for the study of new technological concepts of cold rolling, the Metal Forming Institute of the Academy has a cold rolling reversing mill that can work in Duo and for extremely thin sizes or hard materials in a Quarto installation.
The SACK reversing mill was designed and put into operation in June 1930. This mill is still used in its modernized form for research in the field of rolling flat and long products at the Institute of Metal Forming.
"You will be able to start each laboratory work in Freiberg if you answer the questions in writing, then the teacher marks your presence during the experiments", – says Vladislav.
