Students from 29 countries applied for participation in the International Summer Space School

Registration of willing to participate in XIII International Summer Space School “Advanced Space Technology and Experiments in Space” students and young specialists in astronautics ended at Samara University. The motto of the school is "From the idea of a mission to nanosatellite project”.

This year the participants’ geography of has expanded significantly. 170 people from 29 countries were registered, among them: Australia, Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Brazil, Great Britain, Germany, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, India, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Korea, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Romania, Slovenia, the USA, Taiwan, France, Chile, Sri Lanka, Japan. Students from Mexico (59 people) as well as from Brazil (31 applications) showed the greatest interest in the project.

On February 24 the first remote stage of the school began. The students will study and then confirm the ground rules knowledge of spacecraft flight dynamics. Following the results of the first stage only 40 young people would be selected. They will participate in the on campus stage of the school. It will be taking place at Samara University from June 19 to July 1 of the current year and will enable participants of the school to gain knowledge about the basis of nanosatellites design and engineering.

XIII International Summer Space School is devoted to two anniversaries at the same time: 60 years from the launch of the first satellite "Satellite-1" and 75 years from the foundation of Samara University (up to 2016 it was SSAU, formerly KuAI). The main objective of the Summer School is to interest talented young people in pilot activities in space for solving research tasks and becoming proficient in applied technology based on the use of nanosatellites.

The organizers of schools are Samara National Research University, the State Research-and-Production Space Rocket Centre "TsSKB-Progress", the Volga Branch of the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics.

The school is arranged by the Inter-University Department of Space Research with the support of the Administrative Committee on Space Universities of the International Astronautical Federation, as well as the Samara branch of University Space Engineering Consortium (UNISEC Samara).

The first International Summer Space School at SSAU took place in 2003; it was arranged with the active participation of the European Space Agency. Over past 14 years the school has acquired global fame and popularity among young people interested in astronautics. The school programme changes adaptively and reflects the latest achievements in the field of space technology.
