The second Science Slam took place on Saturday. Almost five hundred students (according to the contest organizers - 470 people) were among those who wished to see the scientific battles.
In fact, Science Slam is an unofficial conference, the participants of which should convey the main point of their scientific work to the unprepared public in 10 minutes.
In Samara, this format was obviously appreciated by the students, young scientists and government officials. Alexander Kobenko, the Minister of Investments and Economic Development of Samara Region, welcomed the audience. He proposed the first riddle of the evening. For some reason a girl translated a “tooth-breaking” scientific definition of the game “football” into the language clear to everybody. Afterwards Alexander Nesterov, the Head of Department of Philosophy and History of SSAU spoke and tried to prove in a short excursus to the history, that science is the coolest form of brain enlightenment. Finally, the slammers- young scientists themselves began to appear on the scene. Two of them were SSAU representatives.
Ignat Bedrin, a student of the Department of Automatic Systems of Power Generating Units, spoke about the future of drivelines in his report “Prime a watercar”. Ignat is sure that future belongs to hydraulic fluid power in car gearbox. Now the system is installed in the car and ready for testing. What is most remarkable is that you will be able to re-equip an iron horse with a more efficient and quiet system at minimum expense. Maxim Mozgunov, a student of the Faculty of Flight-Type Engines became one of the slam winners (this time there were two of them). Maybe his report on creation of the bionic manipulator was not eloquent in the context of presentation, but it definitely impressed by its extent, which the researchers tried to discover. Maxim and his team are going to create a robot -fully functional avatar of a man that will be on orbit, but it will be operated by a human. “Upon entering SSAU I realized that my dream of flying into space may easily come true," - said Maxim. Mechanical arm – a part of a future robot has already gained its shape in 3d- model. It is ready for creation in CAM-Centre of SSAU. Connection between the human operator and the robot will be performed using microcurrent flowing through neurons.
