A city of science will appear near the stadium which is to be built for the 2018 Soccer World Cup. The architects expect the technopolis to occupy the space of over 100 hectares, most of the territory being allotted for research and educational centers and study buildings.
Apart from those, the technopolis is to feature an all-around business, exhibition and educational center, an interdisciplinary scientific mediatheque, a technopark, residence of scientific and research institutions, representative offices of foreign companies, hotels and service facilities.
The concept for the territorial development was discussed on the February 10 meeting. The meeting was chaired by Samara Region Governor Nikolai Merkushkin. The participants included Victor Soifer and Yevgeniy Shakhmatov, the President and the Rector of Samara State Aerospace University named after Academician S. P. Korolev, Alexander Kobenko, Deputy Head of Regional Government, Minister for Economic Development, Investment and Trade of Samara Region, Larissa Zagrebova, Deputy Minister for Science and Education, Anatoliy Barannikov, Deputy Minister for Construction.
The project also includes construction of living quarters for students, professors and employees, both apartment buildings and townhouses. A park area with a forest and a lake will take over 20 hectares of the science city's territory. Almost as much is allotted for the infrastructure: roads, alleys, squares and network passages.
The campus is to be an intercollegiate innovative center, clustering together the most advanced research laboratories of the leading universities, not only from Samara but also from other Russian cities and even abroad.
