Detailed information
The Science Fairs are geared towards the broadest-possible audience. The goal of holding the fairs is to explain to the public, in the most accessible language possible, what it is that scientists do, how scientific inquiry improves our quality of life, and what opportunities it opens up for today’s common man. The tradition of holding science fairs in Russia was first initiated by Lomonosov Moscow State University.Festival events are held over the course of three days at different venues throughout the capital – at MISIS, the University of Linguistics, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Polytechnic University, the State Darwin Museum... A total of 90 venues throughout Moscow will play host to guests with a burning interest in science. The only problem they encounter is the same one as always – how to find the time to see and do everything that the Fair program has to offer? After all, you can’t just walk by stands with the following program titles without stopping: “Multimedia Autopsy – I’m a Pathologist,” “You Be the Surgeon!,” “Nanotechnology in the Production of Toothpaste,” “Dinosaurs and Mammoths in the Heart of the Capital,” “Spherical Cinema – Make a Movie for a Domed Theater,” “Mice with Translucent Brains”...From year to year, the Science Fairs are the backdrop for unique lectures by the world’s leading scientists. Nobel Prize laureates, RF State Award laureates, and other leading Russian and foreign scientists come to the Science Fairs to talk about their achievements and more broadly about the very latest scientific discoveries and breakthroughs to a wide attending audience. In 2014, the Science Fair in Moscow showcased lectures by four Nobel laureates – biochemist Sir Richard Roberts, chemists Kurt Wuthrich and Jean-Marie Lehn, as well as medical researcher Harald zur Hausen. The Festival’s intellectual partner – RVC OJSC.
